American Board of Entomologists Members


CERTIFICATION INFORMATION

Iif you are interested in applying for either the Member or Diplomate certification program for the American Board of Forensic Entomology (ABFE) in 2005, you need to email Dr. Richard Merritt merrittr@msu.edu with your name and address and he will send you the information on the certification process, exam format, costs, etc. along with an application.

Please email a request only if you meet one or both of the membership qualifications below. All applicants must take and pass the written and practical exam.

There are two status categories within the ABFE to qualify for membership outlined below:

Member Status:  Members of the ABFE must have successfully passed the board-certification examination as well as:

(1) earned a Master of Science degree in entomology, biology, zoology, or ecology;
(2) completed a minimum of three years of professional experience in forensic entomology casework;
(3) possess a minimum of one peer reviewed publication on a subject germane to the field of forensic entomology (senior authorship is not required);
(4) given at least one professional presentation to convey research or general education on the subject of forensic entomology.


Diplomate Status: Members of the ABFE must have successfully passed the board-certification examination as well as:

(1) met all the requirements for Membership status above;
(2) earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in entomology, biology, zoology, ecology;
(3) completed a minimum of five years of professional experience in forensic entomology casework (will be asked to present write-ups for these cases as evidence);
(4) have a minimum of three peer-reviewed publications on a subject germane to the field of forensic entomology,
(5) given a minimum of five professional presentations on the subject of forensic entomology at independently-hosted meetings, workshops, or symposia.
